Olga & Kay
Self-directed, Community, Editorial, Photography
Olga & Kay was a self-directed collaboration between Freelance photographer, Olga Kott and I, which started back in 2016.

We both had an interest in combining our skill sets to create meaningful work, which explores telling powerful stories through design and film.

Over the years, we've had the pleasure of speaking at schools and universities. Covering topics such as, the importance of collaborating with your fellow creative and understanding different communities.

As well as collaborating with some great clients such as Team Catford, We Built This City, Homeless Heroes Aid and Westminster City Council.

Touch Magazine
As Olga and I traveled around London a lot for work, it became more apparent than ever of how hostile people can be towards those who are homeless. With this in mind, we wanted to bridge a gap between the public's perception, in particular young people, of how they view homelessness and the stigmas that are attached to it.

We collaborated with Homeless Heroes Aid (HHA), who are a charity dedicated to the rehabilitation of veterans suffering mental ill health, and providing independent living arrangements for former homeless Veterans.

Olga & Kay, HHA, Nia (my sister, 16) and her friend Esha (16), traveled around different parts of London to have conversations with those who were homeless. With their permission, we recorded every conversation and transcribed it for the magazine. To everyone featured, we made it our goal to leave a copy of the magazine at their local community center, so they can see their story in print and read about other homeless experiences.

We named the magazine Touch as it felt relevant to the fact that the public tends to not want any engagement with those who are homeless, whether verbally and especially physically.

The magazine was not for selling purposes. It was created to be an educational tool, which Olga and I would share with young people when we give talks and conduct workshops.

Too Much Source
In collaboration with Kiss FM presenter, Swarzy, we took over We Built This City on Carnaby Street to host a 4-day long exhibition dedicated to celebrating creatives within the Black British community.

Olga & Kay had the role of working on all the digital and print collateral for the event. This included, social media assets, poster designs, photography and videography.

The event gave the public the opportunity to listen to inspiring stories, share experiences, attend an open-mic night, bring their own photographs and tell their stories related to Black British History.

During the build up to the event, Olga & I had the opportunity to discuss our collaboration with Swarzy and share our Olga & Kay projects with radio presenter Dotun Adebayo live on BBC Radio London.
