This limited edition publication chronicles the first four editions of the Lagos Biennial from its inception in 2017.&nbsp; This architecturally conceived book invites readers to explore groundbreaking artistic interventions staged across Lagos’s iconic colonial and post-independence sites, including the Nigerian Railway Corporation (2017), Independence House (2019), and Tafawa Balewa Square (2021 &amp; 2024).&nbsp; It presents a compelling narrative of how artists from Africa and around the world continue to engage with, shape, and inhabit these evolving urban spaces, while underscoring the international character of Lagos.&nbsp; Editor: Folakunle OshunDesigner: Kieron Lewis Copy: Julia Breinbauer, Sabrina Roman, and Lisa Ness. It took several iterations to perfect this method before arriving at the right approach. The more intricate elements—such as the terraces and towers—are produced using 3D printing. The publication features contributions from 161 international artists. Through the overall design the aim was to capture the vibrancy and complexity of contemporary artistic discourse within historically charged environments. All proceeds will go towards developing and constructing the Lagos Biennial’s new home: Àkéte Collection – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Lagos. I started off by creating a number of design concepts of routes we could explore for both the cover and interior. In keeping with the essence of the publication, I was keen for all the beautiful artwork featured, to be the core element within the design.&nbsp; The book feels precious and looks luxurious. It portraits what it means to be black today. For the cover imagery, I was conscious to select an image that would best capture the reader’s attention. The chosen one shows a young black girl dressed in a ballerina outfit staring confidently ahead. Hopefully, this distills the message of uplifting, which is the focal point that the authors wanted to communicate as the ethos of the publication.I proposed to the client that the cover of this 208 paged hardback publication has a gold-foiling spine. Then, to give some more tactile feeling, the titles were embossed on top of the gold. The aim is to help those living in urban environments to improve bats wellbeing through small design changes at home. The Narrative HarperCollins The killing of George Floyd in the US became a benchmark for the sudden rise of global conversations about racism. The protests that followed to express shock, sorrow, and outrage revealed that racism is just as prevalent in the UK as well. As a response, actresses Suzette Llewellyn and Suzanne Packer decided to create a publication where different experiences about racism, particularly in the UK, would be collected and acknowledged.Published by HarperCollins, this publication focuses on 100 Black Voices from across the British community. Everyone featured has voiced their lived experiences to help us set up a true conversation about racism in Britain. Those featured include Bevelery Knight, David Lammy, Kwame Armah and Bishop Rose Hudson-Wilkin.From the cover to interior, I designed the entire 300+ paged hardback publication. In terms of the design process, I was keen to make each feature bespoke through the editorial design process. We knew we wanted a charity that would enrich the life of those young children that we once were. All profits from the sales of this book will go to the Ashdon Jazz Academy. The charity was started by Tricia Muirhead in 2015, following the tragic death of her daughter, Ashdon Muirhead, who ended her own life at the age of just 14 years. Ashdon struggled with peer pressure and aggression at school, and a lack of confidence about being herself in a society that pressurizes young women to be and act a certain way.The main work of the charity is to assign a mentor with a mentee on a 1:1 basis. They meet, or speak regularly, and empower confidence, develop personal skills, help deal with the challenges, and are a listening ear to hundreds of young girls. Working alongside the Senior Commissioning Editor at Laurence King, I designed several cover variations. Each one showcases the models in their iconic poses. Regarding the editorial design for the interior, my process usually consists of drawing out a few layouts, implementing a few on InDesign and then presenting them to the client with my rationale behind each concept. The design of this publication was incredibly swift. From the start, I was determined to work with typography for the names of the models for various reasons. Since modelling revolves around the body and posture, I wanted to reflect on this through the orientation of the typography on the spreads. Some are playful, some seem restricted, and some seem formulaic. These are all elements that relate to various styles of modelling. Unless it is an interview spread, the typography lock-up of each model's name starts on the right and the body copy on the left. This method allowed for consistency across the publication. When I put forward this typographic design concept to the team at Laurence King, they responded positively to this route, and this style set me on a strong path. Throughout the publication, are pulled-out quotes, to emphasize the model's voices. Given the extensive use of borough-specific statistics throughout the report, a key design focus was to present this data clearly and intuitively. Lagos, Peckham, Repeat: Pilgrimage to the Lakes is a major group exhibition looking at the connections between Lagos in Nigeria and Peckham in south east London. Co-curated by Folakunle Oshun, founder and director of the Lagos Biennial, together with South London Gallery (SLG). The exhibition highlights the relationships, culture, shared history, communities and art that link the two places. Before any work commenced, it was essential for me to have an understanding of the co-curators vision, for how they want both the Lagos and Peckham communities to understand and respond to the branding that they see. Keywords such as, community, diversity, connection, history, culture and colour, were elements I wanted my designs to reflect and portray.I wanted to create a sense of connection between the three words of the title, so I achieved this by elongating and connecting certain letters within the name LPR. These letters became the ‘central point’ of the design, to direct the attention to how we view both communities to be connected. Penguin Books Craig David MBE is a British singer, songwriter and rapper.I was commissioned by Penguin Books to design Craig’s first-ever publication cover titled 'What’s Your Vibe? This was in collaboration with Fearne Cotton's Happy Place.&nbsp;A platform dedicated to positive stories and ideas to inspire the communities and ultimately the world. Craig shares with us some of the lessons he has learnt over the years that has helped him navigate day to day life. The book touches on how we should be more in-tune with our feelings. The publication goes into depth on 40 short life lessons which inspired Lawrence to his successful career.
